3.a Mi Vida: A Timeline
Materials Needed: Long white paper, Color and Writing materials
For children of all ages, this activity helps them measure time and compare the difference between days, weeks, and years. For younger children parents can identify major life events (such as the birth of a sibling, or a special family trip) and have them draw pictures to match the event on their time line. For older children, they can identify memorable events in their lives to share. The parent/guardian’s role in this project is to have a conversation about the child’s feelings, memories, and age by asking open ended questions. Be sure to speak about each event relative to our current time (how long ago did the event happen, how old were they, or even location where the event took place).
3.b La Moda: Become a Fashion Designer
Materials Needed: Printed doll, Glue, Fabric scraps, Scissors
Print the doll cut out and arrange the fabric scraps on a work surface. Talk about the patterns and colors you see. Talk about what type of clothes can be created for the doll using these patterns and colors. Once the the design is planned, have your child cut out and glue the outfit to the doll.
3.c La Voz: Craft & Performance
Materials Needed: Toilet paper roll, Glue, Colored construction paper, Markers or Paints
Decorate your toilet paper roll as desired. Cut out a circular shape to glue on the bottom of the roll to cover the opening. Using the remainder of the black construction paper, crumple it up into a ball and stuff it into the opposite opening. To make sure it stays, glue the inner edges. Perform your favorite Selena song for family and friends.
