Shape Driving: Math Activity
Materials Needed: Black Construction Paper, White Construction Paper, Scissors, Toy Cars
Draw and cut different shapes from black construction paper. Be sure the sides are wide enough for toy cars to drive on. Cut out the inner shapes to have the side look like a road. Cut small strips of the white paper to make the median lines to better resemble a street lane. Have your child drive around the shapes with their toy cars - naming the shapes as they push the cars along.
Car Word Building: Literacy
Materials Needed: Toy Cars, Label Writer
Stick letters onto a variety of toy cars. Be sure to make multiple vowel cars to help with word building. Have your child use the toy cars to build their name, the names of family members, or sight words. Work together to identify the letters and sounds to be able to read the words after making the car parade. If the toy cars are retractable, have them race the cars and see which letter wins the race!
Wheel Painting: Art Activity
Materials Needed: Butcher Paper or Long Construction Sheet, Toy Cars, Washable Paint
Have children dip the wheels of the cars into paint. Pushing the cars along the paper they can create different color, pattern, and types of tracks. Encourage the use of directional words such as “derecha” right “isquerda” left “reversa” reverse “derecho” strait Let the masterpiece dry and take time to admire it.
