3.a Hiding Letters/Letras Escondidas: Literacy Activity
Materials Needed: White Printer Paper, Black Marker, Salt, Dot Markers, Brush, Glass Container
Pour salt into the glass container, enough to cover the bottom. Cut the printer paper in half writing both uppercase (minúscula) and lowercase (mayúscula) letters found in Lala’s name on both sheets repeating them as many times as you’d like. Place one sheet under the glass container and one sheet besides it. Have your child use the brush to “search” for hidden letters. Once they find a letter they name it and find it on their paper. Each time they uncover a letter they stamp it on their sheet. This activity can be done with letters in their own name, matching lowercase to uppercase letters, or search and find sight words and words from the story.
3.b Spider Patterns / Patrones de Araña: Math Activity
Materials Needed: 3 Pipe Cleaners, Pony Beads, Pom-Poms (optional), Googly Eyes (optional) , hot glue (optional)
Take 2 pipe-cleaners and cut them in half. Twist this bunch in the center to make the 8 legs. Take the third pipe-cleaner and twist it around the center of the bunch leaving enough to create a ring under the spider’s body. Using the beads, have your child choose different colors to create an AB or AAB patterns (patrones) on each of the legs. As your child threads the beads, repeat the colors and encourage them to do the same. If available, finish the spider by gluing a pom-pom as its body and two googly eyes with hot glue.
