3.a Letter Painting: Phonemic Awareness Activity

Materials Needed: White Paper (Cardstock), Black Sharpie, Washable Paint, Q-Tips

Practicing letter writing, naming, and identification in a colorful way. Write the alphabet on the sheet. Provide your child with different colored washable paint. Have them dip the Q-tip into the paint and trace each letter. Depending on how long your child can focus on the task, this activity does not have to be started and finished in one sitting - taking brain breaks can be useful. For older children, you can have them practice their weekly spelling words or sight words.

3.b Tube Counting: Math Activity

Materials Needed: Paper Rolls, Black Sharpie, Counters (any small objects)

Write a number on each tube. Provide counters so they can count as they place them inside the vertical tubes. Counters can be any small objects such as: foam counters, bear counters, assorted plastic animals, plastic pouch tops etc. This activity reinforces one-to-one correspondence as well as number sense (understanding the value of each number and their relationship with one another) For older children, you can write operation (+, -, x, /) facts on each tube and have them place the correct number of items in the tube.

3.c Celebration Banner: Art Activity

Materials Needed: Long Butcher Paper, Assorted Art Supplies & Tools

Choose something you’d like to celebrate. The parent can choose to write the message on the paper. Have the child decorate the banner. Using a variety of art supplies and painting/drawing techniques provide an opportunity for open and free creativity. Be sure to hang the banner up so everyone can admire their work.
