About the Author: Pat Mora has written many books for children and adults. She authored a book that won a Pura Belpré Author Honor. Currently living in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
About the Illustrator: Magaly Morales lives in Mexico. This is the second book she has illustrated after What Can You Do with a Paleta?
About this book: Many are familiar with the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and are not aware that the twelve days begin on Christmas Day and end January 5, the night before Epiphany or the Feast of the Three Kings. Find out who her amiga is, and the Latino traditions that are depicted in this fun catchy melody driven book.
3.a Singing Traditions
Materials Needed: Song “Twelve Days of Christmas”
Whatever the holiday is that your family celebrates during this time of year think of all the traditions and significant items or symbols you can find around your home during this holiday. Together, make a list of at least 12 and try to sing the song with your own traditions and symbols. The following was our own list:

3.b Las Campanas: Math Activity
Materials Needed: 3 different size of bells, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners
Build patterns with the three different size bells. Line them up in a row having your child name the bell size: small, medium, large (chico, mediano, grande). Create 3 shakers: Take a bell, thread the pipe cleaner through the top, and wrap the pipe cleaner around the possible stick. Using the pattern your child makes - match the pattern by shaking the correct size bell making which makes a musical pattern!
3.c Piñata Mosaic: Art Activity
Materials Needed: Color construction paper, White card-stock, Pencil, Scissors, & Glue.
Using the construction paper cut small squares in various colors. Draw your own version of a star piñata on a white card-stock sheet. Paste the colorful mosaic into the piñata design. Once glue has dried, cut out the piñata shape and place it on your pine tree.
